Warmbad, Namibia
There, genocide was committed by the German Schutztruppe between 1904 and 1908. Pastor Walz's concern in Ruhe is to recognize this history as a common German-Namibian history and to find ways for reconciliation. He expressed this also at the meeting with Josha Frey.
From the small desert village of Warmbad, in the south, on the way to the South African border, a call for help has now come to Maulburg. There, in Warmbad, live mostly grandparents with their grandchildren, many are AIDS orphans. Others are social orphans because the parents are looking for work in distant areas.
Because of Corona, tourism in Namibia has collapsed, and a great many people have become unemployed. The 200 school children in Warmbad receive a school lunch once a day during school hours. For many, this is the only meal they have during the day. But now, during the long Christmas vacations of about six weeks, this meal is no longer provided.
The Protestant parish in Warmbad would like to pack food parcels for these children, but its own funds are far from sufficient. Pastor Walz, who received the call for help, consulted with Pastor Wassmer of Maulburg.
Now the Protestant parish of Maulburg has set up a donation account, which is mainly supported by the Namibia Circle of Friends. On December 16, the donations received are to be transferred to Namibia. Food packages are to be packed in time for Christmas. A food package costs 13,60 Euro.
